I Believe
Album: Free Yourself
Year: 2004
Fantasia has faith that her dreams will come true in the drippy ballad "I Believe."
A snooty piano opens the single, setting a moralizing tone. In the first verse, she asks her friend if she ever followed through on her dream of being a doctor. She wonders if her friend achieved it and is currently working to cure cancer. She says that once it happens, it feels like the person is viewing from the outside. She says the satsification and pleasure is overwhelming.
In the chorus, she says that tonight is transcendental. No other moment in her life will top this. As a teenager, she couldn't decide if she wanted to be a lawyer or a vet. Now, she's holding her diploma in her hand and she knows now that her life begins. She can finally become a famous playwright.
In the second verse, she explains that as she was taking classes, graduation seemed unrealistic. However, it was still reachable and possible. It just seemed daunting. She says that God can help with people learn about themselves and take them in the right direction. She says everyone has their chance to shine. They should never stop hoping and keep working at their dreams.
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, she says that she thinks she can do anything as she thinks she can. She can make it through every hurdle and hoop necessary. In the end, it's having a play that is watched by thousands of people every day. She has high expectations for herself. She considers herself a warm person. Thereby, she deserves any success.
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, while accompanied by a choir, she says it couldn't be without the love and support of her family and friends.
Fantasia is the type of person that if someone told her "no, you can't do that," she would prove them wrong. Having accomplished a major goal in life is weighty and complete. Knowing she's finished with the first step, it gives her confidence that she will be able to do anything she strives for.
Fantasia's vocals are shrill and unintentionally coarse. She's like a pageant queen gone berserk. It's her dream, damn it, and nobody is going to foil it. However, in the beginning, she's at her best. She's quiet and patient.
The snobbish, know-it-all arrangement is insufferable. The lofty chorus and vocals are way too much. According to the song, there is no such as thing as realism. Realists are evil, bitter people who gave up on their dreams. This is not so.
"I Believe" is ill-suited for Fantasia’s voice, but she has a talent for singing. It'sjust not evident in the song.

"Have you ever reached a rainbow's end/And did you find your pot of gold/Ever catch a shooting star/And tell me how high did you soar/Ever felt like you were dreaming/Just to find that you're awake/And the magic that surrounds you/Can lift you up and guide you on your way."
In the chorus, she says that tonight is transcendental. No other moment in her life will top this. As a teenager, she couldn't decide if she wanted to be a lawyer or a vet. Now, she's holding her diploma in her hand and she knows now that her life begins. She can finally become a famous playwright.
"I can see it in the stars across the sky/Dreamt a hundred thousand dreams before/Now I finally realize/You see I've waited all my life for this moment to arrive/And finally, I believe."
"When you look out in the distance/You see it never was that far oh no/ Heaven knows your existence/And leads you to be everything you are, oh/ There's a time for every soul to fly/It's in the eyes of every child/It's the hope, the love that saves the world/And, oh, we should never let it go."
The chorus is sung again.

"I believe in the impossible/If I reach deep within my heart/Overcome any obstacle/Won't let this dream fall apart/See I strive to be the very best/Shine my light for all to see/Cause anything is possible/When you believe yeah."
The chorus is sung again.

"Love keeps liftin' me higher/Liftin' me higher/Love keeps liftin' me higher/I said love keeps liftin'/Love keeps liftin' me /I said love keeps liftin'/ Love keeps liftin' me higher/Said love keeps liftin' me higher/I said love keeps liftin' me high.â€
