A Beautifully Written Letter For Mariah

I have found one beautifully written letter to his daughter by another JoeUser. His name is Jerry DePoy, Jr. I'm starting to melt like cheese now. I wonder if my dad wrote one for me. But whether or not my dad had one, I belive he felt the same. Most dads do. =)

Jerry DePoy, Jr. worte:

Dear Mariah,

Although the spring is knocking on the door, snow flurries dance outside the window as your mother cries in labor. You are close, but not yet, breathing, but not visible. And still the heart monitors pulsate with the rhythm of your beating soul. The doctors are in a mad scramble for the epidural. And I am trying to not faint!

Friends and family wait outside the door, praying and sipping coffee. And as you fight your way out of the womb, I have these thoughts fighting their way out of my mind:

First of all, I want you to know that I will love you forever. Nothing could ever be done on this earth that could ever take away the way I feel for you. No matter where you go or what you do in life, your daddy will always love you beyond comprehension. My love for you is as natural as breathing....and as you finally begin to emerge...(you are struggling to work never before used lungs) the breathing comes natural. So does my love for you! As long as I have breath, your name will be on my lips.

Second, I want you to know the Jesus that has forever changed your mommy and I. He is the giver of life, and in your birth, I am beginning to understand the love that a Father has for a Child. This Jesus came into the world just like you did...kicking and screaming. But he left this world forever altered. Things would never be the same since He conquered death! There is nothing on this earth that can have dominion over you, as this same resurrection power is availabe to you through Grace...thus your middle name.

Third, I want you to know that I am not perfect. I am so afraid that somehow, in some way, I will let you down. I never want to hurt you! But as you look up to me in your growing years, please remember that I am in as much need of Grace as you are. I pray for holiness and integrity for my life, so that I can bring glory to God. But if I should stumble, please remember that God is the one person that will never let you down. I believe that I am a good husband, and I want to be a good daddy too.

Yesterday I held you for the first time and everything inside melted for you! I want to be the kind of daddy that takes you for walks, and will play barbie dolls. I look forward to painting your nails and brushing your hair. I want to make sandcastles with you, and teach you how to surf. I want to build snowmen in the front yard, and tree forts in the back. I want to get involved in your schools and cheer for you from the front row. I want our house to be the host of many slumber parties and youth-group events. I want to help you move into your college dorm and approve of your boyfriends. And one day, I want to walk you down the isle in a white dress, to give you away to a better man than me.

Love, Daddy
