Music Review: Natalie "Goin' Crazy"

Natalie

Goin' Crazy
Album: Goin' Crazy
Year: 2005

Natalie misses her boyfriend, who lives in another state, in the petulant "Goin' Crazy."

A dated piano starts the single, setting a frumpy tone. In the first verse, she says when they kissed goodbye at the airport, she's been depressed ever since. As they pull apart from their embrace, she bursts into tears. She says she would give up anything to see him again. He's the only guy she's ever loved. She can't wait until 8:00 p.m., when he calls on her cellphone. However, she prefers that he be in the same room with her. She wishes she could make out and cuddle with him.
"Ever since the day you went away and left me lonely and cold/My life just hasn't been the same ohh baby, no/When I looked into your eyes the moment that I let you go/I just broke down (down) /Baby if I ever get the chance to be with you again I would sacrifice/'Cause the feeling that I feel within/ No other man would ever make me feel so right/It's nice to smile when I get your phone call at night/But I'd rather have you here with me, right next to me/I miss the way you hold me tight."

In the pre-chorus, she confesses to him her belief that they are meant to be together. She's hopelessly in love with him. His being gone has affected her more than she realized.
"I gotta let you know I feel so weak without your touch/I never thought that I could ever love a man so much/I gotta let you know I think that we are destiny/For you I'd cross the world, for you I'd do anything."

In the chorus, she says she can't take being without him anymore. She says they have the strong foundation to get through the distance.
"That's right baby I'm goin' razy/I need to be your lady/I've been thinking lately/That you and me, yes we can make it/Just ride with me, roll with me I'm in love with you baby/ That's right baby I'm goin' crazy/I need to be your lady/I've been thinking lately/That you and me, yes we can make it/Just ride with me, roll with me I'm in love with you baby."

In the second verse, she says she can be herself with him. When she talks to him on the phone, she hopes his feelings are as strong as hers. She says she will be faithful and loyal to him.
"Break it down now I'll tell you what I feel/From the moment that I met you its been so damn real/My heart seems to skip another beat/Every time we speak, I can't believe I feel so weak/Tell me that you really need me and you want me and you miss me/And you love me I'm your lady/I'll be around waiting for you I'll put it down be the woman for you."

She continues to say that she's starting to realize that she needs him in his life. She's never been in a long-distance relationship before and it's all new. She's unsure of how to cope.
"I'm falling so deep for you crazy over for you/I'm calling, calling out to you what am I going to do?/It's true, no fronting/It's you and no other I can no longer go on without you /I'll just break down (down)."

The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.

She adlibs for the last part of the song.
"Oh, oh/Crazy, lady, lately/Oh, oh/Oh, oh, oh/Baby."

Natalie has gone out with a lot of guys. However, her current boyfriend is the one she really cares for. Although he lives in another state, she knows that he is the right guy for her. That is, until she bores of him and a drama occurs. Then, she will say he was just other guys. Her love for him is sudden and immature. She's in love with the idea of him, but necessarily him.

Natalie's vocals are childish and petulant. She's excited for all these new emotions. However, she mostly seems bothered by them. She can't keep with the hurried beat. She's constantly trying to catch up to it and failing.

The music arrangement is simple and cheap. The low production values really show. The piano is metallic and tinny sounding, as though it's from a Casio keyboard.

"Goin' Crazy" is a plain, forgettable R&B song.
