Do You Celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Do You Celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

If so, how?

Aside from wearing something green, I really don't do much on St. Pat's day.  The only times we have ever "celebrated" it was when friends would have a party.  I never even tried green beer!

It seems our kids' school makes a bit of a deal out of it.  They have green snacks and have been talking about leprechauns and shamrocks.  My kindergartner even had to build a leprechaun trap.

So, do you celebrate?  If so, how?

I never even tried green beer! Not even green bagels?

So, do you celebrate? If so, how? With my blog name and real name of Kennedy it should be obvious that I do; however, at my age, the best I can do is what you do and wear green.

I have had green bagels, cupcakes, jello, etc.

Not other than wearing green (or else my kids pinch me) and I make green snacks for the kids. I heard on the radio that a bunch of moms dropped their kids off and were at an Irish pub by 9:30AM. Even if I weren't pregnant, that doesn't sound appealing to me. Maybe I'm just an old fuddy-duddy.

I love Irish accents and my grandma still uses Irish phrases and harbors a severe fear and hatred of snakes. She claims to have only been drunk once in her life but she did a good job of it. She drank some home brew and was drunk for days. Her father as well as my uncles fit the drunken irishman bill though. They are all short, fiesty guys who are known to get into "fist-to-cuffs" when drinking.

It's been a pretty mellow St. Pat's day here. My 9yr old pinched me first thing in the morning because he slept in a green t-shirt whereas my nightgown had no green. I did laundry and grocery shopping while the kids had fun at school. Now they're home and I need to figure out what everyone's doing for dinner. In other words, pretty much like any other day.

At least it's Friday!!

Friday or not, you still can have corned beef! [by special dispensation.]

Ugh. I celebrated it. I can still taste the spectacularly dyed Guinness at the back of my throat. Being an Irishman is hard work - I can't imagine how someone drinks that garbage to excess every single day. All I wanted to do this year was sit quietly and hope I didn't throw up on my date. And that was a shame really, cos there was an MoS special on at a club that I wanted to go to.

Jill,

I left Dublin for the weekend in order to use the long weekend and avoid the traffic. I spent Paddy's day eating in Germany.

"Sir" Peter,

which public school did you attend?

I heard that even the Irish don't celebrate this day as lavishly as some people here in the U.S.

Anywho, My mom was named after St. Patrick (well, she has the female version of the name), so she makes sure to dress in her best green on this day, and she and her husband do go out to celebrate some years.

As for me, I've only gone out and done the bar hopping thing on St.Patrick's Day ONCE in my whole life...and I found it boring. Guess it's not my thing...I don't even drink, so no Green Beer for me. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Biggest thing I did to celebrate today was to carry a shiny plastic Shamrock in my pocket to make sure no one pinched me (I really don't have anything green in my wardrobe).

I hope you didn't wear orange--or you would've gotten pinched!

I'm mostly Irish (grandmother was Apache), and I drink, so of course I celebrate.
