only if a United planet resolution that allows allies to gain benefit of a starbase is passed.

Even then, only allies.

I thought the trade bonus applied to all trade routes - not only the owner's empire. Could someone elaborate a little on this issue?

econ starbases work on all trade routes, but only you will gain the profit from your own starbases

Oooo so you get revenue from other peoples trade routes? So even if it desn't goto or from one of your planets you still get money?

If it passes within the influence range of your econ starbase with the appropriate modules, yep.

I've done that in several games. Totally awesome if you're the civ in the middle of the map, you can just plop econ starbases all over your territory and make bank on the inevitable traderoutes criscrossing your space.

Well, it would kind of make sense. If you have a starbase along a trading lane, it would definately see some freighter traffic, and would probably get some business.

So you could imagine these things being like, interplanetary little chefs. Frieghter pilots on thier way to a planet stop off to get some rest and some food giving you some revenue, the more trade routes theat pass by, the more money you get.

I'll remember that next time, I usually just plop econ starbases next to my routes but I'll start putting them near others too.

Indeed good to know. While taking my newbie steps I usually plop them near my colonies to get the production boost. Which raises another question - if a planet is within the range of several bases, do the effects of those stack?

A good question. A better question would be: Do all starbase boni stack and if so is this intentional? I hope what stacking there is, is intentional.

I know that the military starbase boni stack quite nicely. It's lovely to have some crappy fighters from early on with insane attacks, due to multiple military bases, given their cost (And this actually does stack, not just a visual bug since they beat shps FAR more powerful than they are on a ship vs. ship base stat comparison )

Yep, or as it is more commonly referred, international trade levies, or in Galciv2's case, intercivic trade levying. In other words, you tax those foreign freighters if they are to have any hope of keeping those profitable routes open with your planets. And a starbase acts as a port-of-entry to that particular sector so to speak, wherein provides all the IRS policing on all and any shipments passing through.

And as mentioned above, why not throw in a view shops and malls and such, oh my!
