Do You Want Crying?
Album: Katrina and the Waves
Year: 1985

Katrina Leskanvich's ex-boyfriend sufficiently hurt her in the bitter "Do You Want Crying?"

Jangly guitars open the single, setting a vexed tone. In the first verse, she says the breakup happened several months ago. However, she's still wondering why stopped loving her. At one time, he had to have her in his life to discuss his troubles. She calls him foolish for thinking that he won't miss her. In her mind, she still can see his wide, toothy grin and hear his husky voice. He's telling her that he's found someone else. She begins to weep.
"So long now since you walked and left me/Why did your love grow cold ? Don't you think you need me ?/I see that smile/It's your face, I feel you holding on and on/I hear your voice/It's saying: bye bye love/I count my teardrops as they fall."

In the chorus, she tells if he feels if he aimed to screw her up, he accomplished his goal with a mighty flourish.
"Do you want crying? Look I'm crying/Do you want crying?? Oh, oh, oh, oh/You've got me crying/You've got me crying/Don't you want crying?”"

The testy guitar has a brief solo.

Parts of the first verse are sung again.
"So long now since you walked and left me/Why did your love grow cold ? Don't you think you need me ?"

The chorus is sung three times to end the single.

For Leskanvich, the breakup was out of the blue. As far as she was concerned, their relationship was going great. They were in love. Until, one day he took her out to lunch and told her he didn’t want to be with her anymore. He found someone else and left her with the check. She's been going through agony for the past several months. She's angry at him for making him feel terrible and anguished all the time.

Leskanvich's shows off her range in the song. Her vocals go from low and disappointed to sardonic in a smooth manner. Her vocals are light, pretty, and expressive. Whereas "Walking On Sunshine" was about the hook, this single is about her voice.

The guitar arrangement is cynical but catchy. It never strays into grave pop. It manages to be dance-around-the-house-with-a-hanger-as-a-mic-fun without letting the sour attitude take over.

"Do You Want Crying?" is a forgotten 80s song worth seeking out.
