Stupid question, but how do i create a shipyard..so far only have my starter.

It's a Social Project. Click on a green tile on any colonized planet and find the shipyard project. Once it's done you can start building those ships from that planet.

Build the Starport.

ETA: Or do what Foslex said. I think it's called Starport though.
