New Laptop For On The Road

Yesterday I bought a new laptop. Well, ok, I don't have the cash to actually buy one outright. I got it from a local "rent to own" place. I know, not the best way to buy something, but the payments are affordable, and if I can manage to pay it off in six months I'll save about $1,000 on it, which is my plan.

It's a Dell Inspiron 2200 with a 1.5GHz Celeron M processor, CD-RW, 15" screen, integrated wireless and ethernet, and 256M RAM (which I'll upgrade to 512M after it's paid off. All in all it's a pretty nice laptop and will allow me internet access while on the road as well as run my truck mapping/routing applications.

I actually got a little better deal on it than normal because the sales woman misquoted the payments (and therefore the total price)to me, quoting $10/week les than it should have been. She acknowledged her error, and sold it to me for the lesser quoted price. The price she had quoted was for a previously used machine, whereas this one is brand new. So basically I got a new machine for the price of a used one. Cool.

So, now I'll be able to log on from the road and not be out of touch for so long at a time. I probably should have just saved my money and bought one cheaper at some point down the road, but I really wanted to get one as soon as possible, not only for the internet access but to be able to use my mapping/routing software which makes my job much easier and more efficient.

Excellent Choice!  I bouth my wife a Dell Inspiron, but went straight to the 512mb of memory (she is using Windoze after all).  I also got the longer battery (3 hours vs 2), but I think I am going to pick up another battery.  Her's died over Memphis on the way home!

Those batteries never seem to last as long as they should. I'm going to do a memory upgrade on this one as soon as money permits. SO far I like the machine a lot. It "feels" a lot more solid and sturdy than my last Compaq Armada did.
