Are there any mods for creating random events out yet? Have any random events been created by any modders yet?

In the same way there are random events, and planet colonisation events, I wonder is it possible to tie events into any other occurence? Could events be triggered by exploring anomalies? By conquering worlds? By researching technologies? I love the ethical choices that crop up, but wish there were more of them, occuring due to a greater variety of player actions.

Very true. They are cool but one thing that bugs me is that there doesnt seem to be that many benifits of being a good guy... I normaly end up exterminating or enslaving the locals lol.

Ethical choices in the anomalies... that could be interesting... don't even need to be ethical choices... Like when I find some form a ship I always sell it... why? Why not let me have the choice to sell it (gives cash), strip it (random amount of research done on 1 or more weapon/logistic/engine/hull/life support skill, or keep it and getting a cool new ship (could be colony, constructor, scout, combat, or even a hull I can upgrade to add some of my own componants ontop of the ones it has [all hinted at in the selection window] ) Now wouldn't that be cool?

Actually there are several, but not through the anomolies. The anomolies just make it cheaper for you to become good when you research xeno tech. Also they give you an alignment when you research.

Being good comes with some great advantages. Notably that other good races will be willing to ally with you. You also get some pretty rightous defensive technology and some nice diplomatic bonuses.

Being evil means no one trusts you and will want to have you killed eventually

My favourite event is getting a 'Lucky Ranger', which seems to happen all to often. Two dreadnoughts vs. Arcean escorts = two dreadnoughts.

No they are not embedded in the EXE. Please don't misinform people. They are in xml or text files in the data directory.
I went digging around to double check and found a file called.. expansion01events.event Any dot event file is a candidate and can be modded with a text editor.

There's two types of events, one is a 'on colonization' event where you get asked right after colonizing.. the other is it happens later/ during the course of game randomly.. Not sure about anomalies but you can look up Caretfarmer's guide on anomaly in the mods section.

Stop misinforming people, please.

There are three types of events:
Colonization alignment event.
Random alignment event.
Even more random event (for example 'lucky ranger', AI alignment switch etc.)

The first two are in .xml-files and can easily be modded. The third, I haven't a clue where it is but I have looked through the whole data directory and it isn't there. I'm quite sure that it can't be modded.
expansion01events.event is a file in Galactic Civilizations 1\Data, note the number, and doesn't exist in GalCiv 2\Data.

i think he means the ethical choices presented upon colonizing. There is never any 'good' choice that give you benefits.

As for giving options when picking anomalies ... that would be an interesting feature.. but I don't think the AI would be able to deal with them right now.

Maybe if stardock use the same AI that decide the appropriate action for AI to take upon colonization.. then the anomalies feature would be fair. I would imagine the AI can't actually make good judgment about which option is better but just follow their alignment.
