AJ McLean comforts his broken girlfriend in the mindful “One.”
Sensitive guitars open the single, setting a giving tone. BSB say they will be the man the girl can believe and love completely.
In the first verse, McLean noticed his girlfriend was confused and couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t have faith in another guy. Knowing this, he decides to be open about everything: past relationships, childish mistakes, pranks that he pulled when he was five, etc.
In the pre-chorus, Brian Littrell says she’s a free-spirited girl who sought him out. She wants to talk to him. He wants to corrects her ex-boyfriend’s errors and be there for her, even though she may push him away.
In the chorus, BSB say they will be her angel and solace. Anytime she needs someone, they will be there. They will stay with her until she has calmed down.
In the short second verse, Nick Carter says he’s no longer afraid of her moods. He wants her to be happy again.

In the bridge, Littrell says she gives him companionship. They have a lot in common. He adds that together, they will have the ultimate love. He wants a serious relationship from her. It will be a special experience for both of them. He urges him to give him a chance.

The Americanized Europop arrangement is churned and manufactured by Max Martin. Like most of his products, they have a polished sheen and are undistinguishable from the pack. Martin’s production is stagnant.
Out of the three main vocalists only Littrell is able to convey the caring and compassion needed. McLean and Carter go through the motions. The song is a paycheck to them.
“The One” is the bubblegum stuck on the inside of a desk, chewed up and avoidable.
