This Kiss
Album: Faith
Year: 1998
Faith Hill reels from the perfect touch on the lips in the spirited “This Kiss.”
Cheerful guitars open the single, setting a sunny tone. In the first verse, she says she would like the fairytale romance. She’s dealt with disappointing relationships before and she’s had her fill. Her new boyfriend, however, has got her excited and hopeful that he will be the man of her dreams.
In the chorus, she tells him that his kiss makes her feel as though she’s outside herself. It’s a brief moment in utopia and nothing could match the happiness it gives her.
In the second verse, she says that even princesses have trouble in love. She says Cinderella and Snow White share their gripes with one another. Cinderella says that her husband couldn’t meet her expectations.
The chorus is sung again. However, the adjectives are changed toward the end.

“I don't want another heartbreak/I don't need another turn to cry, no/I don't want to learn the hard way/Baby hello, oh no, goodbye/But you got me like a rocket/Shooting straight across the sky.”
In the chorus, she tells him that his kiss makes her feel as though she’s outside herself. It’s a brief moment in utopia and nothing could match the happiness it gives her.
“It's the way you love me/It's a feeling like this/It's centrifugal motion/
It's perpetual bliss/It's that pivotal moment/It's, ah, impossible/This kiss, this kiss/
Unstoppable/This kiss, this kiss.”
In the second verse, she says that even princesses have trouble in love. She says Cinderella and Snow White share their gripes with one another. Cinderella says that her husband couldn’t meet her expectations.
“Cinderella said to Snow White/
"How does love get so off course/All I wanted was a white knight/With a good heart, soft touch, fast horse/Ride me off into the sunset/Baby I'm forever yours"
The chorus is sung again. However, the adjectives are changed toward the end.
“It’s the way you love me…it’s ah, unthinkable/This kiss, this kiss/Unsinkable/This kiss, this kiss.”
In the bridge, she tells her boyfriend he could kiss her in any romantic spot in the world. They could watch the stars and he could kiss her they while they lay on the blanket. He could make a dinner for her on top of their apartment building roof. He could kiss her like couples in the movies do. He could be spontaneous, kissing her as she tries to close the window. She says that she’s in heaven with him.“You can kiss me in the moonlight/On the rooftop under the sky, oh/You can kiss me with the windows open/While the rain comes pouring inside, oh/Kiss me in sweet slow motion/Let's let everything slide/You got me floating/You got me flying.”
In third chorus, the adjectives change again.“It's the way you love me..it's (ah) subliminal/This kiss, this kiss/It's criminal/This kiss, this kiss.”
She adds two extra lyrics in between.“It's the way you love me baby/It's the way you love me, darlin'.”
The third chorus is sung again.
The two extra lyrics end the song.
As a little girl, she grew watching the Disney versions of Snow White and Cinderella. She saw love as magical and triumphant against any evil. But as an adult, she soon learned that love can be harmful and confusing. Her new boyfriend has renewed her belief in the fairytale.
Faith Hill’s vocals are perky and breezy. She complements the blithe music arrangement well.
“This Kiss” is a sugary treat worth the stomachache afterwards.
