Invisible
Album: Measure Of A Man
Year: 2003
Clay Aiken's crush is indifferent to him in the skulky "Invisible."
Syrupy guitars open the single, setting an angelic tone. In the first verse, he wonders what she is doing right this second. He would like see her live in her house and be a hidden observor. He's heard she's going out with someone. However, he would like to find out if it's fact or a rumor. He thinks whoever she is with isn't good enough and hijacking her life. She would be a better fit in his life. He thinks of ways to get her attention.
In the chorus, he repeats that again, he would like to spy on her. He says if he could withstand rejection and have supernatural strength, he would go after her. If he knew he wouldn't get hurt, he would tell her how he feels. He would be the straightforward, aggressive guy girls want. Then, he remembers that she could care less about him.
In the second verse, he says that whenever he sees her, he shouts to her. She ignores him and continues talking with her friends. Every she walks, he follows behind her. He wants to know what she is thinking and see if it's anything about him. He sees her as the perfect girl who could enlighten him.
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, he reiterates that she's blind to him. He says that without her, he's not even a person.
The chorus is sung again.
Aiken sings "if I was invisible" six times to end the single.
Beware of Aiken. He's a stalker in "Invisible," tracking his crush's every move and following her around everywhere. It's unnerving and far more romantic. His crush is likely aware of him and ignoring him as a way to not encourage him. However, it gives him motivation to hunt her even more. He probably has a shine devoted to her in his house as well as spygear.
"Invisible" provides a distorted view of unrequited love and condones stalkerish behavior.

"Whatcha’ doin’ tonight/I wish I could be a fly on your wall/Are you really alone/Who's stealin' your dreams/Why can't I bring you into my life/What would it take to make you see that I'm alive."
"If I was invisible/Then I could just watch you in your room/If I was invincible/I'd make you mine tonight/If hearts were unbreakable/Then I could just tell you where I stand/I would be the smartest man/If I was invisible/(Wait, I already am)."
In the second verse, he says that whenever he sees her, he shouts to her. She ignores him and continues talking with her friends. Every she walks, he follows behind her. He wants to know what she is thinking and see if it's anything about him. He sees her as the perfect girl who could enlighten him.
"Saw your face in the crowd/I call out your name/You don't hear a sound/I keep tracing your steps/Each move that you make/Wish I could read what goes through your mind/Wish you could touch me with the colors of your life."
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, he reiterates that she's blind to him. He says that without her, he's not even a person.
"I reach out/But you don't even see me/Even when I scream out/Baby, you don't hear me/I am nothing without you/Just a shadow passing through."
The chorus is sung again.
