Galciv Tech Tree WebSite updated

Hi,
Had some time today to update my website.
http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/

Added research lists by Tech category.
Added research cost to all projects.

The research cost is the sum of the research cost's for all technology required for the project.

Trevor,

What did you use to create the original files before you turned them into PDF's?

Would it be possible to get a copy of the file in it's original format?

Thanks

The Galciv summary is created using a java package called iText.

The tech tree and full tech tree are created from postscript files that are created by GraphViz. The postscripts files and dot files are up on the site but not linked too.

Here are links to the techtree.ps and fulltechtree.ps files

Here are links to the techtree.dot and fulltechtree.dot files which are used by Graphviz (not word templates)

You might have trouble with the dot files if you have office or word installed.

Oh forgot to mention. I created a java program that parses the data files from Galciv to produce all the html pages and dot files. Whole process takes a couple of minutes. Actually takes longer to ftp the files to the host server than it does to produce them :)

Great work JavaScout, feel free to ask me for any art work you may want to add to your site. ;)

Is there any chance of getting the tech tree builder made an optional part of GC so that someone wishing to add stuff to GC can build their own files to proof out their work? I still think SD should compensate JavaScout for his work in some way and make this part of the product in some way.

Looking good.

it'd be nice if we can get a flash site made by javascout and some gfx peeps so it looks nice and is easy to update then perhaps SD might want to officially endorse it?

Sorry Morden but I really hate flash sites. Easy to update is always relative when it comes to web sites. For validating changes to the configuration files a better option would be to have a combined editor/validator application(exe) that sits on the desktop.

JavaScout,

Is your tool up to alphabetizing the printables? The quick reference would be a step beyond excellent if each section was in alphabetic order, if it wouldn't take much effort.

Any sort order is possible. I have been playing around with this. Currently the order is by total tech cost. I did not think alpha sorting would be helpful. I will give it a try with Beta 4 and see what everyone things. I can also produce two versions of the quick reference one in alpha order the other in tech cost order if there is a need. As always any feedback is welcome as I am a total geek and sometimes miss the obvious :)

JavaScout,

I don't know about how useful tech cost is. I find myself jumping around in the quick reference trying to find this pre-req or that pre-req, so I definitely would find the alpha order much more useful.

Thanks,
