Stranded
Album: Brigade
Year: 1990
Ann Wilson's boyfriend abruptly leaves her in the imploring "Stranded."
A forlorn piano starts the single, setting a rattled tone. They've been fighting for an about hour. It began over something small. For the past ten minutes, he's saying it's over. She's shocked and feels like she's been punched in the stomach. Her entire life for the past couple years is gone. The friends, family, the memories. She'd thought she would be with him forever. She never counted on being single again. She doesn't even remember what she did when she was single. She tells him that he promised her stability and companionship.
In the chorus, she clamors for him to stay. She tells him she will nothing if he abandons her.
In the second verse, she points out to him that he made love to her. He said he would never stop loving her. She asks him to be honest and to tell her why he's going. However, he's has already walked out the door.
The chorus is sung again.
An upset electric guitar has a solo.
The latter half of the second verse is sung again.
The chorus is sung once to end the single.
Wilson can't believe how one minor fight led to the end of a relationship. She didn't think he was a callous, cruel person who would dump her the moment things became rocky. Without him, she doesn't know what to do. She's become dependent on him for so much in her life. She analyzes in her mind what it could've been that drove him away.
Wilson's vocals are bewildered and grieved. She has incredibly strong, rugged vocals. However, she can still be fragile.
"Stranded" is a passionate ballad.

"Standing here helpless/Where do I go/If you leave me alone/Where do I turn now/If it don't work out/As far as I can see/This isn't the way/That you said it would be."
In the chorus, she clamors for him to stay. She tells him she will nothing if he abandons her.
"Don't leave me like this/Don't leave me stranded/If you walk away now/You leave me empty handed/Don't leave me like this/Don't leave me stranded/Don't leave me now/Don't leave me."

"Wasn't it you/Who brought me here/To the place lovers go/Just look at these arms/Reaching out to you/You said that you'd always care/I just turned around/And there's nobody there."
The chorus is sung again.
