Frogboy - Is Stardock hiring?

Hi Frogboy (or any other helpful Stardockian),

Is Stardock hiring programmers right now? I'm finishing my computer science degree right now (four more months and I'm freeeeee!

. I wouldn't normally consider moving away from Vancouver (that would be Vancouver, Canada), but Stardock has the coolness factor going for it.

I have more than 2 years experience already, by the way. I've worked 16 months at EA (as part of my university's co-op program), so I'm not altogether ignorant about the games industry.

I've checked out www.stardock.com, but the presence of a "Work At Stardock" page was not apparent to me. This being the case, I hope someone from Stardock will glance at this post. If you could tell me whether Stardock is hiring programmers and where to send my resume if it is, I would be grateful.

Yea I can't wait for Society. I am also a graduating CS Major (and getting a Math degree also) but I don't think I could make the move to Detroit. Open up a Philadelphia office!

As a fellow Canadian working in the US I can give you some advice. If you have a CS degree and 2 years work experience then under NAFTA you can get a TN-VISA for working in the US. It takes about 5 minutes at US customs at the Canada/US border to get it and costs US$50. You will need your passport, University transcipts, resume, and a job offer for not long than one year. The TN-Visa is only good for a year so the job offer letter you show customs must only be for a year also (when I moved to the US to received to job offer letters, one open-ended and one saying one year for US customs). Also, the letter from the employer should say they could not find anyone local to fill the job. When the year is up you can get another one at the border, again for a year; I don't think there are any limits on how many times you do this.

Also, you don't want to have to pay taxes to Revenue Canada on your US earnings (you will have to pay taxes to the IRS) so make sure to cut your residency ties to Canada (close accounts in Canada except for your RRSPs, get a US driver's license and cancel your BC one after you arrive, getting US plates for your car from Canada will be a pain so you might want to sell it.
