Simcountry.com is a pure text play as far as I can tell via a browser. No fancy graphics but you can run a country (highish level), run an Enterprise Holding company with lots of subsiduaries or both.
The Country side you have to look after, schools, hospitals, transportation (roads, rail water treatment), armies (offensive, defensive and strategic i.e. nuclear) and whilst you are at it, make money from the State run corporations or the visiting CEO run companies.
Everything is fairly high level, i.e. build X number of elementary schools, or Y hospitals. The key is you have to have the right mix of available people in order to run them...otherwise they fall down.
You can set salaries and taxes and specify social security payments but the key comes down to how many people there are and of what level. Upgrading companies so they make bigger profits hence taxes is key but to do that you need better qualified people...
I've yet to be involved in a war but you can takeover other countries, buy corporations etc. You can take war out of the equation if you wish and become a peaceful nation but its a one way path. Once peaceful always peaceful.
Wonder how Society compares to Simcountry, graphics aside...
