I purchased Star Control: Origins (base and DLC's) on Steam and been playing just that version of the game and quickly became rather disappointed when I found the v1.60.361168 Release to be a known unstable version of the game that causes crashes after every 10 minutes of game play.
For the past 2 months alone, I uninstalled and reinstalled Star Control: Origins three or four times (the first 2 times to playtest whether or not switching Fullscreen to Windowless Boarder fixed the problem, which didn't).
I then uninstalled the game to install v1.60 opt-in, but this to is a unstable release of the game as well. As with v1.60.361168 Release, v1.60 opt-in always seemed to of crashed either before or immediately after my conversation with the Scryve near the end of the first mission (assist the Tywom by collecting all ship parts so they can leave Triton).
So I once again completely uninstalled the game, deleted all my saved games, opt-in v1.43 opt-in Release and reinstalled. Even though v1.43 opt-in Release seems to so far be the most stable game version that allowed me to progress to the second mission (Tywom Homeworld), unfortunately, the v1.43 opt-in Release is missing some ship and planet/moon textures (which ups the space battle difficulty since seeing my ship, the Vindicator, To found to be hard to see).
No game player should not have to fight game crashes to progress through any game regardless of the met minimum hardware requirements. All of us game players are frustrated which makes us all left to wonder: Is there an ETA on a possible fix to the unstable v1.60.361168 Release?
EDIT: I just uninstalled Star Control: Origins since I find the tradeoff between an older opt-in release which drastically hardens space battles due to missing textures AND game crashes every 10 minutes.
EDIT UPDATE: Last night, I installed opt-in - v1.61 Release through Steam, and I'm so very pleased to report is game as a whole appears to be stabilized at the moment. In fact, I was able to play the game for longer than 10 minutes and progress all the way to receiving my second mission, which is to go to the Tywom Homeword in the Alpha Repeculea star system, without any crashes whatsoever.
