So, like quite a few peple I imagine, Star Control was very formative for me. It is in my opinion, genuinely the greatest scifi opera story ever told; I figure if there's an inkling that the legacy will continue with Brad and his merry band, I should throw in a few words. Only two, totally unrelated points that I hope are read.
Firstly, what I truly love, and what I think makes Star Control so vitally important as a story is how Earthlings are so INSIGNIFICANT in the Ur-Quan Conflict. The imagined history of the world, and how overshadowed they are by other races, makes the story really resonate- we contribute in important ways, but we don't LEAD (the Chenjesu do), we aren't 'the cavalry' (the Yehat are), we aren't the plucky young go-getters that make the last great stand (the Shofixti are). The real contribution that Earthlings can make? The thing that every Earthling captain can tell their grandchildren? "I was there."
Secondly, PLEEEASE remember... we LOST. I think doing a reimagining of the series is absolutely the best way to do it. But one of the key parts of the story that shouldn't be ignored is that the Alliance was never going to win that war - they were standing up to a fascist and a bully, and they did the right thing, but victory was never an option. The Chenjesu knew it, the Mmrn-hrmm knew it, the Arilou knew it. I honestly think the only way this new game can end is with the Heirarchy winning. There is no other option.
Finally I had a more tangible suggestion. It would be great if we could record our battles in game, and share them with each other in some sort of... chronicle of... Famous Battles in the Ur-Quan Conflict... Perhaps we could start with... Volume One and fill in the gaps... Seriously, a sort of meta that allows players to vote on battles and have them enter the records of the Volumes as a sort of canon of the Famous Battles vol I-III would be amazing.
Anyway, I thought I'd beter throw my voice in somewhere, given how important to me this series is. I couldn't imagine a better team to bring it into the light. Good luck guys!
