It was to be his last tour before he could finally go home to where he can tend to his home in peace, but alas he has been posted to the starbase Tokyo orbiting the human world of Murino a metropolis world mostly used for trade and stock exchange but he calls it home.
'Hey, Oi!'
The voice snaps Kei back into reality. He glances at the source of the voice, gunnery sergeant Mayuko who too was posted on the starbase on short notice. The reason was unknown however as to why twenty individuals were called to duty and also posted on the station Tokyo.
'What is it May?' He turns back to his monitor, glancing through data and radar blips. Picking up his cup of coffee taking a sip then setting it down where it makes a evident ring on the surface of his workplace.
'Aren't you supposed to be on your last tour, you know. To go home to your wife Sayuko?' She asked, adjusting her headset as she leans back in her chair.
'Yeah, only a couple more days before I can go b-' before he could finish his sentence, the phase radar begins showing multiple blips as there are incoming unregistered ships. Sitting up and turning the alarm on he attempts to open a communications node to the arriving fleet. No response. Kei turns to Mayuko.
'Activate all weapons, be on the ready in case if this goes south.' Mayuko nods, flipping a bunch of switches at her console.
The communications uplinks finally establishes, which makes his blood turn to ice on who he sees.
'Vasari, aren't we supposed to be allied with your kind?' he sneers as he adjusts his mic for better volume.
The alien lifeform makes an audible repetitive sound. This bastard is laughing. Kei thought to himself.
'Our agreement has come.. to an end and we have realized that humans are a plague in this universe, thinking they are all so high and mighty. We will obliterate you.' The communication uplink is abruptly cut short.
'KEI! They are already here!' Mayuko is pointing out the window. Kei leans over from his seat and sees a massive Vasari fleet firing their weapons. their lasers and wave weaponry dispersing before the shields.
'See that, this is shield t-' A shudder makes Kei fall from his chair. Phase missiles were known to go through shields and directly into the armor of ships and structures. Cursing he pulls Mayuko up from the floor, looking at her he hands her a pass card.
'This will get you to the council of the world Murino, get everyone else into the shuttle and go NOW.' Kei begins pushing her to the door but she digs her feet in.
'What about you don't you have a wife to be coming home to?!' she cried.
Smiling Kei looks outside the window, letting go of Mayuko.
'My wife was killed by Vasari two months ago, when we were on the paradise world of Murdoch. I have nothing left Mayuko, nothing left but a empty home. My wife... To never again to see her smile or hear her laugh or even hold her close to me to say. 'I love you' This pain is too much for me to bear alone, you must go and warn the others. WARN them so we can prepare a fighting force to rival these bastards.'
She nods with tears in her eyes, she runs out of the room. Shortly after Kei sees multiple shuttles making their way to Murino. He walks over to the central console, disengaging the safety protocol he looks at the massive button labelled self-destruct which would taken him, this station and that fleet with him.
'Goddosupīdo'
Godspeed. He pushes the button, as the light consumes him his last thoughts are.
Honey, i'm coming home.
