Quoting ins2, reply 4In my humble opinion it is YOU who are not living up to what the game expected...
Seriously, I have played several times on Normal and Challenging, and have built empires of up to 12 cities - I have had monsters attack me and lost cities, but I have tried again, and prevailed... this game needs patience and thought, and not just brute force and spamming of cities...
As for your idea to be able to build cities everywhere, I also began by asking for that (even as an additional fation trait) but after a while I LOVE the strategy behind choosing your spots and spreading your cities and outposts strategically across your empire...
The inspiration for this game, Master of Magic was notoriously hard in the beginning, and you had to wait many turns before building/summoning enough troops to take over a node since your magic had a 50% fizzle rate when fighting on a node. Patience and planning were key to winning MoM, and I suspect that it will be true of the final version of FE as well. I have started approx 20 games of the FE Beta under .912, .913 and .914 and my only real complaint has been echoed by many here, that the MOBS don't go after the AI players as they do the human player.
True, and that was a decent game mechanic. What is not a good game mechanic is a monster that you have no hope of defeating if you do everything exactly right, chewing up your level 1 city with all your forces pooled to defend it.
Tremor was mentioned, but a player should not be locked into a meta game choice just to survive. A game should give you choices, not present you with one viable build.
EDIT: Just read they are changing the mobs behavior in relation to cities in .915, great news!
