Yeah, at CivFanatics they've really cracked down since Civ5 came out. I'm generally very civil in my postings (though not above constructive criticism), and had been been posting on CivFanatics for years without issue.
Once Civ5 came out, oh boy. I found myself getting a warning and having my posts edited every time I went there until I eventually stopped posting. I suspect 2K's PR department handles much more than advertising.
Kind of a shame too as 2k has two of my favorite franchises (Xcom and Civ), but how can you trust a publisher with absolutely no integrity. Really wish Stardock could make a new X-com game
Or more realistically - the site is called "Civ Fanatics", and is for people who like Civ. I had no problems posting there when Civ 5 came out in terms of warnings/bans, and I was pretty negative. But over time I left because constantly posting negative stuff just gets annoying after a while, and at this point the owners want a forum where the people who do like Civ 5 can talk about it without yet another "why Civ 5 is worse then Civ 4" thread.
You saw the community react similarly here after the launch. There was a couple weeks of the launch, then people just wanted those still complaining about the launch to go away because the people who wanted to talk about the game were being drowned out by the launch stuff which at that point was simply endlessly repeating the same things over and over again and was just noise (Stardock doesn't ban people nearly as easily though).
Hell, last week MMO Champion's owner threatened to ban people starting more threads on Rift. People speculated about all kinds of nefarious "Blizzard/Curse are afraid of people talking about Rift" type stuff, but in reality it's a WoW forum and he doesn't want 50 Rift threads creating noise. There's two threads for talking about Rift, and thats where posts go.
