The 2K forums are probably considered a part of their advertising by 2K, so the censorship and fanboys are to be expected. CivFan is different, they're supposed to be somewhat independent. I used to lurk there looking for Civ2&3 info back before Civ4 came out. It was fairly mello back then. But when Civ4 came out, it became fanboy city. I think Civ4 brought in a massive influx of younger users to that forum. The post written by Gyrate here: January 6, 2011 4:13:48 PM kind of sums up what Civ4 attracted at CivFan back then. Been that way since. That childishness generated by Civ4 is a major factor why the game never drew me in. I didn't care for the way the game was changed from Civ3, thought it retrograde, but may have given it a try with mods (Civ games are crap before they are modded and it's the mods that save the game). The Civ4 fanboys are what ultimately persuaded me to pass, I didn't want to get involved with that crowd at all. I stayed away from that stuff and was more interested in keeping track of MOO related things, anyway. I didn't post in the regular Civ areas there till last summer, when info about Civ5 started coming out. And I was quickly warned for trolling (by a moderator named Orl) when I posted I wouldn't buy Civ5 if it had Steam. A lot of people were getting grief for similar posts then. So I quit posting outside the Civ3 and "other games" section for a while. Looked back at the Civ5 section a few months later, and the moderators had lightened up quite a bit. Maybe they realized what they were doing was hurting more than helping 2K's image at the forum. I think the censorship may be creeping back in, but I don't follow the Civ5 section that much, since I decided to pass on the game. I stick mostly to the Civ3 and "other games" sections and people seem to get on well in those areas without the fanboy spam and moderator heavy handedness.

Is that the same guy who made the age of discovery mod for that poor attempt of a remake, civcol?  He was pretty helpful and polite when I had problems getting the mod to run.  The mod actually made the game playable.

Anyways, I think farmville fanboys are worst, continuously filling your facebook page with requests to be friends and give them some fuel.  

Dale is a fairly talented modder certainly. His people skills leave something to be desired unfortunately.

Speaking of Farmville, apparently Civworld (Facebook Civ game) is taking Alpha applications or something. *Ugh*

If Hollywood were to exploit the infinite ore of the internet, we could get awesome movies like "Clash of the Fanboys".

For me its a toss up between Fallout 3 fanboys and Civ 5 fanboys.  But the Civ 5 fanboys actually made me not want to buy the game period, so I have to give the award to them.

I stopped by the 2k forums a few months back asking how the game compared to Galactic Civilizations 2 since I have never played any game in the Civilization series.  I ended up getting flamed by a bunch of people for daring to compare a Civ game to any other game.  They acted like it was a grave offense that I even dared think the notion that Civ 5 could even be compared to another game.  Thread got locked a few hours later and I apparently got a ban for trolling.  I never even got a chance to respond.  The original post on those forums was the only post I ever made there.  If thats whats to expect from the Civ community I want no part of it.  Whats worse is the mods just outright banned me for asking a simple question.  That kind of behavior right there means 2k won't get any business from me, ever.  So now as far as I am concerned any game made by 2k doesn't exist.

Also, I hate Steam with a passion so I probably wouldn't even have bothered with it anyway.  As I understand it, even if you buy the CD version, you're still required to have Steam and a Steam account to even play the game.  I've tried Steam before and its terrible.  I just want to play a game, ANY game (that I had on Steam) but no, I have to go through what seems like endless update after update.  The offline mode simply does not work and I do not like the notion that some guy some place can and flip a switch and turn off ALL of my legitimately purchased games.  This seems excessive and draconian to me.

Keep in mind I only made one post in the following thread and I was banned. It was very tame and I was on topic. Dale however isn't even on topic. I only took a few shots because it just went on and on. Still this is overload if they are going to call my couple of line posts trollings. If I made a single post like that there I'd get in trouble, and I've not argued in such a fashion. You can see in the first image that I posted I get the same treatment at Civfanatics who thinks they are cute and nobody will catch on.

What pissed me off is I had plenty of legit posts but they trashed them. I found plenty of bugs as you can see above. My buddy had a legit problem with no internet connection. He bought it at the store not realizing it required you to be online. The previous versions didn't. Anyways, he calls me on the phone pissed because he just spent $100+ dollars to hook it up, $50 on the game, and he says, "WTF is this thing downloading that is 6 f'ing gigs. Why the @#$% did you tell me to buy this @#$% and that it's a good game? It's not even on the f'ing disk." I hadn't talked to him in a week I told him that the day before it came out. So I go there to ask and I get hammered, banned, etc. Nobody would even consider it was true. The same thing happened when I couldn't even get on because the Steam server got busy and gave me a partial download of an upgrade. I couldn't play until it went up. So much hatred, I'm a liar, banned. A month later I come back when the ban is off, and some dude is still in the post trashing me. It's the third post in the list. I'm like oh hell naw. So I post again that it's true. Banned! They allow these dudes to come in and start crap with you then ban you for responding to them. It's totally lame. They are the worst fanboys because they are backed up big time by the mods there.

Dale has been a dick to me on many occasions on the internet. That in itself is not a big deal and frankly I don't care how he treats me. 

I do see him insulting everyone under the sun however. He has repeatedly trashed Brad, Stardock and Elemental. He has  trashed Kael, Rhye, Sullla and other people I quite respect. After awhile it gets old and tiresome.

Perhaps I shouldn't care either about a blowhard like that.
