I am now clarified about your direction of increasing research prices.Its a good idea to focus on one tech tree instead of over spamming every research possible in the end game.
However,I think that maybe you might increse their significance.I mean,huge costs for very low increase in damage,hjealth,shield?You could make them more significant to somehow ounter balance over building frigates,cruisers or caps.You see,units still cost the same,for the same ammount money one would be able to build ,say two frigs,for the same cost.
See,my problem is that building ships still is significantly more important than research,at least that is what i think.
Anyway,its still up to you.
I also like the idea of phase jumping being able to be done inside a gravity well,I dont know how balanced that would be but it would really suit the vasari with phase gates.
I support that you incresed damage across abilities,makes them more useful,less cosmetic.
As for the initial quote. I want to be able to "Feel'the differences across the factions from the beginning.Kinda like in Starcraft.You have expensive but strong units-faction(vasari),you have cheap but strong in numbers units-faction(TEC),and you have micro intensive with powerful abilities units-faction(advent).
Also,it could be unique if like TEC would have no shields appart from caps.It would make them the anathema of advent.
I also like your remnants sub faction for vasari.May be you could make sub factions for advent and tech as well. More agressive oriented less eco based or so.
