I know that we all tend to think of ourselves as being better than we really are. We never see our own flaws, or rarely seem them I guess, but we're plenty quick to see flaws in others and stand around pointing at them and fanning flames in their direction when given opportunities to do so.
What am I talking about here? Well, at another site I frequent there's one individual, much like the inferior officer here (the Clueless Old Liberal that frequently haunts and trolls here at JoeUser.com) that is recognized by most as a persistent 'thread crapper' or at least as someone that likes to dump crap on various things (such as movies that he thinks sucked while others offer praise for them, or TV shows that he thinks stink, etc...)
Now, I say recognized by most because I've gotten private messages discussing such activities in the past and somewhat cheering me on for calling this individual out on their habit of crapping on things as if they were possessed by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
Lately this in-duh-vidual has been crapping on and on about why there isn't a winner in the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray format war. While he says he doesn't care who wins, he also goes on to complain about why HD DVD won't just go away, how can it be surviving based on sales chart data that is old and under-informed, and in other ways does his level best to spread more FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) about the long term viability of HD DVD as a format, even though the same individual knows that many of the bargain hunters that frequent this other site recently purchased HD DVD drives for themselves or as gifts for others, and even though there've been literally hundreds of messages about bargain movies to be bought or that were just bought on the HD DVD format.
This same individual went well out of his way to dance on the grave (well before there was really a grave dug) of a TV show that many people liked, but which sadly didn't get enough support in the ratings to survive beyond it's first year (though I note that the show that replaced the one that was killed off did even worse in the ratings than did the show that is gone).
And as noted, this same individual has been less than kind in trashing movies that some people (like me) thought were hilarious while basically saying that people that didn't find movies that he liked as entertaining and funny must be in some way defective for missing the humor.
So, why is it that said individual can't see in their own writings on the net that they are an antagonistic troll that likes to fling pooh just for the sake of flinging pooh? Why is it that said individual calls me out for apparently being filled with hate because I toss a few sarcastic rolling eyes smileys in their direction?
Like the CEO of Stardock has said in the past, I love a good fight and debating on the internet is great sport for me. I'm more than happy to engage in a battle of wits with someone, though I have to question whether or not it's worth it with some folks (like the inferior officer here, or like the crapper at the other site I like to frequent). After all, debating is one thing, but continuing to argue over things well after the rest of the world has seen the results of the fight pre-determined is something entirely different.
