lol, the inspiration are those shadow race guys from Babylon 5! once I saw the race picture, I was pretty sure it was that along with the homeworld name.
in one of the episodes where you actually see the Shadow guys (they were called The Shadow most of the time), they appear as black spider/crablike creatures, and thier homeworld was found to be Zha'dum (or something along the lines), plus your ships look alot like the ships they had in the Babylon 5 series.

. The 'Dum part is from the shadows too, but i came up with the "Brunai" all by my lonesome. Now the ships are all my own, but still a little shadow inspired

You do know Brunai (Brunei) is a real place...It's east of Viet Nam.
Well when you make your own planets, you can make them any class. However, Brunai'Dum is the only planet in the Unai'Dum system, there are no others. So you don't get a second planet or anything.
And yes, i know Brunei is a real place, but not until after i thought up the name Brunai! Heh, go figure. At least it's not spelled the same.
