MoO 2

Getting it to work

I have read a lot of posts comparing gc2 to moo2, this is not one of those posts...

But it is sparked by those posts. Everyone asking for feature x or feature y from moo2 has made me want to go back and play that game. I loved that game way back. I loved gc1, and I love gc2 even more.

Problem is, I can seem to get it to run stable on winXP. Has anyone had success with this?
I have my old CD around somewhere, but I don't remember if it is a dos or win95 version.
Let me know your success stories.

99% of moo2 cds contain both versions.
If not check out steps 3 and 4 in this link:

add rkernel.com and take the 1.31 zip patch which contains the missing dos files.

I play it using DOSBox Link and the front end for it called D-Fend Link.

I'll check these out.

I've tried DOSBox for Conquest of the New World... It was too slow, even on my X2 4800.

I've had luck copying it down to my harddrive and installing from there...there do seem to be some issues when you try to load it from disc in xp though... I just find that the game becomes too predictable to quickly (it sucks to never risk lossing)

Have you been able to install it? It's been a few years since I've played it, but I'm pretty sure I played it since 2001 (when I got XP). Let's eliminate the obvious, have you tried running the game in compatibility mode for Win 95/98? Have you tried disabling visual themes?

If none of those work, try dos emulator DOSBox, Link It lists MoO2 as being supported by the emulator. If you have trouble getting it to run on that, they have a forum there to help you out.

Just to report back,

I followed the instructions on LordBrazen site, and they worked almost perfectly.
Some of the files he said to edit didn't exist, so I just created them.

I find that the game plays way too quickly, even when I set CPU affinity to just one core.
Well, I may play through one game and then back to gc2.

You dont need DosBox or similar things. The 1.4 patch generates a shortcut with the optimal settings.

Obviously true against the AI. After a few months you will observe the same with GalCiv2 when the current top-notch players provide some detailed strategy guides....(just look metaverse right now)

That's why I just play Moo2-multiplayer games right now. 1.4 patch works fine with kali or hamachi.
