On game crashes. I have adjusted the auto save to save every other turn. That way I will never lose more than one and a fraction turns. An autosave does not take but two or three seconds between turns, and it can save you lots.

Sure, I know about the wonders that are called autosave.
But I had a crashing savegame, one that I couldn't load (or three of them to be precise), that's why I couldn't continue my Drengin game until the experimental .exe turned up. It was the last brick in the wall of racial victories.

Ouch! That hasn't happened to me with GALCIV 2, but it did on GALCIV 1. I made hard saves every few turns... and saved when I I had to quit for the day. When I came back, the last save game would not load.... neither would several of the others.... I had to keep going back until I found one that loaded.

On one of the changes they are doing this month... not this week's but the next one.... the attackers and the defenders will both get their shots off every round before the damage is inflicted... that will lead to some design changes for me (I have not been using any defense until late game large and huge ships) . Plus tactics such as ambushes with fast ships will not be as successfuk without some tweaks in builds. But I like the change. It makes more sense this new way.

Well I finally completed playing all the races and got my new shiney. I'm going back to custom races now. I think that its too bad that you don't get an all-victory type medal too.

I agree that it's a shame there is no all victory types medal. I tried looking for the thread which described the medals but (as I'm sure you already figured out...) I couldn't find it. I was going to suggest both an all Victory conditions medal and an all races/all conditions medal. I am currently about to finish Tech win # 2 with the Yor (race #2) and will cycle through all the races on Tech before moving on to the ~slightly~ more desirable Political Victory and cycle through them all again, then to Culture and finally to Military.

I must say that it is interesting to play an "evil" race and see the communications that I recieve from the other "evils". (My normal style of play is to lean toward saintly.

Chip, if you can suffer through winning 10 tech victories, then you deserve a box full of medals I'm sure DG can whip something up for you at the Core, even if Stardock can't

Now, why don't you try to win each victory type, as each race, at each difficulty level - that would probably be as long and drawn out as the "battle squares" game in Icewind Dale 2
